Review: Doctor Who: The Flames of Cadiz
My rating: 5 of 10 stars
This story deals yet again on a historic time-travel story. In this case they went to Cadiz in XVI century when Spain was at building their warships to invade England with what we would know as the Great Armada.
Ian tries to a save a house from burning and he is arrested charged by the Holy Inquisition and as a Traitor. He was sentenced to die.
The Doctor dresses himself as a Cardinal from Papal States to try to appease the King and save Ian. After the rescued worked he then escapes with Estaben to thwart the plans of the Spanish Armada.
The Doctor becomes very upset because he is sick of warning them that they shouldnt change history, but Barbara lash out saying that if he was human he would understand that they were in the year before Spanish Invasion and there was a attack on shipyard of Cadiz that delayed the invansion for one year therefore he wasn't changing anything...
This tale deals with something very interesting. In this story the englishmen were going to attack on lisbon but on Ian feedback they attacked Cadiz which really happenened on History, so, it was a future person who change previous history so... it's a loop? Or is that damn question what came before the egg or the chicken?
I really like this notion and what's interesting in all these audiobooks is the continuous fight of the Doctor against his companions about the repurcusions of changing history but it was him that saved Marco Polo because without it he was to be dead even before he went to mongol lands and became known. So...

Second Doctor, "Almost no" Jamie McCrimmon & Zoe
Zoey Harriot is telling someone about her dreams. She tells him about the first time she met the Daleks with the Doctor and Jamie. This story involves mind control technology. Supposedly she was controlled by an ally of the Daleks and her mission was to kill one of two presidents in peace conference. With the help of the Doctor and the redemption of that ally they thwart the plans of the Daleks.
Basically this is a very straightforward tale with worthy mention to Zoey. Jamie is almost non-existent and the funny doctor (I think that the Second Doctor is a funny one).
Worth of hearing? I don't think so. There are so much better out there.

Review: Doctor Who: The Alchemists

First Doctor and Susan Foreman
It was The Doctor who saved Marco Polo before he was "famous".
We are in Germany in 1930's. The First Doctor and Susan are visiting germany right before the Nazis took over. The Doctor of course wants to meet some men of science but is soon kidnapped. Right from the start you know who is going to be the main character. Susan then receives help from a man, a bunch of kids and later by the SA.
This episode is quite good. It's almost a noir historic story where the main focus is the atmosphere of Germany right before the Nazis take over and a world of spies. Good audiodrama.

July 2016 - Update on Movies, Series and Animes
This has been one great week for me in terms of "me time".
Well for starters I'm reading a book (something that I wasn't doing for a while) and after 3 days I am at page 100. Not reading very fast but that's okay. At least I am enjoying the book and the reading time.
Movies
Then in movie departament I back down a bit because I was seeing a lot of movies which took most of my time. 24 movies in 30 days. My favourite movies from this period were Coherence, The Witch, The Purge and Oculus. I really despised Shockwave Darkside, Animus: The Tell-Tale Heart
Tv Series
In terms of TV Series I am watching the second season Scream TV Series in episode 8. I am watching as they are being released. I've watch the first episode of Stranger Things, Thunderbolt Fantasy (a mix of fantasy and puppet show with oriental flavour) and Wayward Pines.
I was seeing Containment but stop in episode 3 because I recently discover this series was cancelled but I want to finish it...
I watch the first episode of Slasher and due to it's similiraties with Scream (scream has a comic relief that makes it very unique) I don't know if I am going to watch. Maybe. I also have on stand by Zoo which was a series I watch last year but greatly dissapoint me in the last couple of episodes. Plan to watch as well after this series, The Man in the High Castle, The Expanse (6 eps remaining), Lucifer which I am watching with my Wife, Colony and Braindead. In september it comes out the third season of Z Nation and the second of Ash Vs Evil Dead.

In terms of anime what I have thought would be interesting was watching a single episode of each anime of this season (Summer 2016). The ones I like I watch and the rest I "drop it".
So far I've watch 16 eps. Eleven I've dropped. Only one have really catch my eye.

- Orange is a drama that remind me of Boku Dake (Eraser) about time travel but instead of someone time travel, the main protagonist receives a letter from herself 10 years in the future telling what to change. - Taboo Tatoo is a nice story of martial arts mix with spies. Let us see after the second episode if it still interest me. My anime list 7.23 Ranked #2513
- D Gray-Man Hallow is a story about a post apocalpytic world where corrupted humans turn into demons. There are humans fighting them called Exorcists. I was interested but dissapointed to see this is a kind of sequel.
- Masou Gakuen HxH is a show about boobs. Yeah it's boobs. It's not hentai. Basicaly there are some enimies and girls with big breasts are fighting them. A boy if touches a girl in an erotic way makes her more powerful. There a lot of girls and only one guy. I am envious of him. I hate him. I want to be him! Akira Asagi, the 17-year-old protagonist who is a researcher at Blue World, is nominated to lead the war at Ryuukyuu LAG, a proud defense facility on the islands of Ishigaki and Iriomote. She meets the sixth combat unit "IS," which was formed four years after a fierce battle that annihilated the fifth unit. Akari must lead these six riders, also called the Scared Rider Xechs, to fight against the other world while at the same time deepening the relationship among them." It sounds good but it isn't.. Review: Doctor Who: The Great Space Elevator by Jonathan Morris

Second Doctor, Jamie & Victoria Waterfield
This Doctor is a bit different than the first. The First was always so concern with changing history. This one change history without thinking. Why is that? Did he realize "heck why do I care?"
Everytime the Doctor grabs one companion is he not changing history? I think he is, so why not changing other things?
In this tale, it remind me of something Arthur C Clarke wrote about a space elevator. In this case they are drawn to a space elevator in Jakarta and they go upwards to help the power surges that are happening there. In the up station they realize that something is wrong with the people there. They are behaving in strange manner. They soon realize that a being of pure energy is controling humans and they are changing the weather back on earth so a big thunderstorm fuels this energy beings.
Why didn't I enjoy this tale knowing it had Victoria and Jamie my favourite companions so far? Well Victoria narrator is kind of strange and put me off. Then the second doctor is almost a godlike being knowing everything before hand.
Nevertheless, if you enjoy Victoria (What's not to enjoy) hear this audiobook.

Review: Doctor Who: The Uncertainty Principle

This one is a bit longer than the previous stories and it follows Zoe as she is being interrogated by The Company as they try to make Zoe remember her travelling time with the Doctor (Don't forget that in the original tv series the Time Lords after punishing the Second Doctor remove all memories Zoe and Jamie had of the Doctor).
This Story follows close by "The Memory Cheats","Echoes of Grey" and "Second Chances" which I didn't heard yet. This four stories makes a Quadrilogy (is this the correct word?) of some kind...
This story is nothing interesting, I was a bit lost at some points. The only interesting thing was the story behind the story Zoe was tolding. The Company Zoe was born into. The company that Zoe try to take down. The reason the Company was trying to make Zoe remember her travelling with the Doctor, the relantionship that grew between Zoe and her captors. And in the end... the end of the company and the closure of Zoe life with the doctor.
After hearing this story I think Zoe and Jamie were my favourite Doctor companions so far. Combined they were friends and where was fully action oriented the other was calculist and tactiful. The Doctor even say that Jamie was his favoured companion. You know. I have watch every first and second doctor's episode and then stopped. I really like the First doctor but my favourite companions where undoubtly Zoe and Jamie

Review: Doctor Who: Echoes of Grey
My rating: 5 of 10 stars
Zoe has a photographic memory but after her travelling with the second doctor both her and jamie had their memories clean by the Time Lords. In this tale a woman talks with zoe telling that she knew her but zoe didn't remember her. Then she told Zoe that she had a machine that could refresh their memories and she willingly went.
Zoe start remembering a time when they were in a scientific facilities in Australia and people with fatal diseases are cured. As they investigate they realized that some beings called Achromatics basically suck the disease/harm to them curing the humans. The Doctor and Zoe become embroiled yet again because they were first afraid that it would be used as a weapon and second they were living beings and so they had their rights.
Everything went astray when a patiente's brother appear asking for his sister and is struck down from one of this "things". It seams someone in the facilities don't want to go public because they are afraid if truth was told it would be shut down.
The Doctor, Jamie and Zoe as they escape the Achromatics (not because they were evil but because they were sucking everyone's life force) destroy them releasing a deadly disease on one of them and they consumed themselves one by one.
As Zoe returns she confronts the woman saying that she doesn't remember her and who was she. She admits that she is not there when that events happened but she represents the company and since she's got a photographic memory she would be the one to remember the formula to make more of those things.
Zoe, in the end, says she can't help them because she doesn't remember anything...
Very good audiodrama. Well not very good but better that Glorious Revolution, Resistance or Emperor of Eternity.

Boardgame Arkham Horror - Session 03 - Turn 1 - Ancient One Shudde M'ell
They are in a tour in Pensylvania and already made their stops in the small towns of Dunwich, Innsmouth and Kingsport. Now they are in Arkham for their final concerts.
They all feel that something was odd in those last towns they went but it was in Arkham that things got out of hand. Evil is afoot and each friend will have to battle this hidden nightmarish fiends.
(One thing I didn't thought is that they are all magic oriented characters... I doomed).

This guy is awesome against undead. One clue to automatically pass a combat check against undead. And In case of other world every card as a green symbol. Very nice.
The Story So Far: Daddy used to say, "Jazz is a lot like liquor, it makes everything go down a little smoother."
Daddy used to say a lot of stupid things.
Jazz has been nothing but trouble for Jim since the day he picked up his daddy's trumpet. There was something weird and otherworldly about the writing on the inside of the bell, but the tones from it were smooth and dark, like good coffee. There was something about it that made you want to tap your feet and snap your fingers. That trumpet landed Jim a lot of gigs until the time it made Widow Jenkins get up and dance, the day he played at her funeral. After that, it was kind of hard to find work, especially playing funerals.
Since then, Jim has learned a lot about jazz-- and the things the graveyard ghouls talk about on cold autumn nights. Lately, they've been talking about The End, as in the end of everything that is and could be. The Final Rhapsody. The fact is, Jim isn't too keen on that idea. He's got more songs he wants to play before then. So, sitting in a booth at Velma's, Jim takes one last swallow of hot coffee before heading out to play what could be his last encore. The coffee is smooth and dark going down, just like the night...

The Story So Far: Marie Lambeau always had a voice to die for. People called her "the Smoky Velvet." They said she was born to sing jazz, that she had the magic touch-- and maybe they were right.
Once, Marie heard of a man who could make the dead dance when he played his trumpet. She never could do that-- her voice wasn't magic that way. But when people hear it, they like it, and they like her, and that suits her just fine.
Marie's grande-mere just passed away. Why the old dame moved from New Orleans to Arkham, Marie never knew. Anyway, she never paid much attention to the stories people told about the old woman. She just figured they were jealous. But now, she's sitting in Ma's Boarding House holding her grandmother's knife, and she can hear it singing with a voice like smoky velvet...

She has a dusty manuscript that gives +1 spell check and got one spell called Markings of Isis giving her the possibility to pass a horror check for free. The casting modifier is equal to monster horror rating. So basicaly if you are fightining a -2 horror rating I will have two possibilities to pass a horror check. First with the spell and then the Horror check.
She's got one time Powder of Ibn- Ghazi that gives a +9 combac checks. +1 lore and the King in Yellow giving the possibility to gain 4 tokens for one sanity cost and lose the item.
The Story So Far: All her life, Patrice has lived for music. The soaring sonatas, the graceful arias, and the booming marches have always been her closest companions.
But sometimes as she plays, she can sense something at the edge of her awareness - something that watches her and waits, for what she doesn't know.
The presence has been growing over the last month, and her increasing nervousness is starting to spoil her ability to play the violin. That's not something she can tolerate.
So when an old gypsy she was swapping tunes with told her that she was being watched by an evil spirit, Patrice listened with somewhat less skepticism than she might have had even a month ago. The gypsy referred her to a shop in Arkham that might have what she needs to get rid of the spirit.
That explains why Patrice finds herself entering the Curiositie Shoppe this evening, feeling a little silly and more than slightly nervous.
Ancient One
My adventures are fighting a terrible ancient one they call Shudde M'ell... This one is going to be hard.
Shudde M'ell is the creation of Brian Lumley and is featured in his novel The Burrowers Beneath (1974).
Shudde M'ell is "a great gray thing a mile long chanting and exuding strange acids... charging through the depths of the earth at a fantastic speed, in a dreadful fury... melting basaltic rocks like butter under a blowtorch." Shudde M'ell is the supreme regent of the Chthonians, a horrifying race of burrowing creatures, and is probably the largest and most malignant member of his kind. According to some legends, he was once imprisoned beneath G'harne, but now he is free to wander the earth with his kin.
Worshippers: Shudde M'ell is worshipped by his inhuman children. Chthonians deal their damage when moving on a roll of 2-6 instead of a roll of 4-6.
Power: World Cracking - While Shudde M'ell stirs in his slumber place the 7 rubble tokens face down near the board. Each time a monster surge occurs, draw a rubble token. The token is placed on the location it shows, closing that location for the rest of the game. If there are no rubble tokens left when one should be drawn, the game is over and the investigators lose.
Attack: One undrawn rubble token is discarded. If there are no rubble tokens left to discard when Shudde M'ell attacks, Arkham is destroyed by a massive earthquake and all investigators are devoured.
Basically I'm doomed...

This anime is very strange indeed. Basically a boy dies and he transforms himself in a being called Ajin (which there are only 60 or so in the world) and everyone wants to get him.
Basically Ajin are almost immortal and have some supernatural powers. There is not information so far (episode 4) to who are they. The way this ainme was drawn was very strange. The story is good but the way it was design makes me cringe a little and made me stop watching... But I will endure.

TV Series: Scream Tv Series. S02E09
So after watching the 9th episode of Scream there are some news...
First: Zoe sent an email to her in Noah computer with Audrey confession and Emma receives it. Zoe says it was not her but the email was hers. Noah believes him and his reward? Sex!
Second: hayley throws a party and meets the killer and kisses it and when she as doing a blowjob it kills her... So was it? Noah is not because he was with Zoe. Kieran? Gustavo? Or Kieran's cousin who was absent from this episode? Gustavo's father?
Third Gustavo also stole a lipstick from the rich girl and the next sketch emma finds on her lockroom a tape and some words with a lipstick or something like that telling her to hear it... I dont buy all the acusations of Gustavo.
Fourth Oh and Piper was friends with Emma new teacher. Friends or something else. It seema they were both in a asylum of some sorts.
My guess? Still Kieran.

Review: Doctor Who: The Forbidden Time
My rating: 6 of 10 stars
So this little story is about Polly and Jamie (and Ben) and the Second Doctor.
It seems everyone in the world heard a voice in their sleep telling everyone they are trespassing in time and so they will be consume of some sorts. We then follow Polly addressing people (probably a conference) that she has a tale to tell about the Doctor.
She then begin to tell them about a time when she was travelling with the Doctor and Jamie (and Ben) and the Tardis collided with something (collided is not the correct term) and force to land in a shadowplace. A place beyond time and space where you can only see the shadows of things. Their a race called the Vists inhabited and wanted to consume everything that trespassed on their own time. AS the Doctor told the party members, the Vist live in a place where time exist but does not exist. We humans follow a single line of time and the Vists treat time as we treat space I think.
This story was quite interesting because it had Polly (ben was almost absent) and she remembered the differences between the old and the new doctor (the first and second doctor). To me, who have seen the tv series about the first and second doctors we really have different views. One is confident and serious the other is fearless but acts clueless and almost reckless in his approach.
I really enjoy this story and the way it was written and recorded. Two in a row. That's new...

As the world is in the middle of an industrial revolution, a monster appears that cannot be defeated unless its heart, which is protected by a layer of iron, is pierced. By infecting humans with its bite, the monster can create aggressive and undead creatures known as Kabane. On the island Hinomoto, located in the far east, people have built stations to shelter themselves from these creatures. People access the station, as well as transport wares between them, with the help of a locomotive running on steam, called Hayajiro. Ikoma, a boy who lives in the Aragane station and helps to build Hayajiro, creates his own weapon called Tsuranukizutsu in order to defeat the creatures. One day, as he waits for an opportunity to use his weapon, he meets a girl named Mumei, who is excused from the mandatory Kabane inspection. During the night, Ikoma meets Mumei again as he sees Hayajiro going out of control. The staff on the locomotive has turned into the creatures. The station, now under attack by Kabane, is the opportunity Ikoma has been looking for.

Unsure if this is the work of an apparition, Koyomi and Ougi attempt to unravel the truth behind this enigma. But Koyomi soon discovers, after finding himself locked in with Ougi, that the room holds the memory of an event he had long since forgotten.

Kowabon is an original horror story which examines the possibility of there being a darker side to the digital age. What if someone, or something, was observing us through all our cameras and other digital devices for its own sinister purpose? The series is animated using a technique called rotoscoping. In other words the animators are tracing live-action footage frame-by-frame to recreate it as animation.

Earth has been inhabited by an array of beings once thought to be pure fiction: ghosts, robots, aliens, cyborgs, you name it. This horrific reality is not something that many can accept. To keep the civilian population from panicking and to protect humanity from any new threats that may arise, the various governments of the world have decided to keep this information secret.
The Japanese government's solution to this problem is to set up the Super Population Research Laboratory, also known as the "Superhuman Bureau." This organization is tasked with keeping track of all the special beings within Japan and containing, or eliminating, individuals that are deemed to be a threat. As only other superhumans can really stand up to superhumans, the Bureau consists of almost all non-human members. The one exception is Jirou Hitoyoshi, whose main job is to recruit new talent and bolster the number of superhumans working for the government. One day, a crucial decision forces Jirou to become a vigilante, with the Bureau he once served now hunting him. How will he handle the transition from hero to fugitive?
I think this was not a good season in terms of animes. I see a padron this last year...
There are a lot of animes focusing on sports (more now), a lot of animes focus on a post apocalypytic scenario and players of videogames that are trapped or transported to a fantasy world...

Although her name means "snow white," Shirayuki is a cheerful, red-haired girl living in the country of Tanbarun who works diligently as an apothecary at her herbal shop. Her life changes drastically when she is noticed by the silly prince of Tanbarun, Prince Raji, who then tries to force her to become his concubine. Unwilling to give up her freedom, Shirayuki cuts her long red hair and escapes into the forest, where she is rescued from Raji by Zen Wistalia, the second prince of a neighboring country, and his two aides. Hoping to repay her debt to the trio someday, Shirayuki sets her sights on pursuing a career as the court herbalist in Zen's country, Clarines.
Akagami no Shirayuki-hime depicts Shirayuki's journey toward a new life at the royal palace of Clarines, as well as Zen's endeavor to become a prince worthy of his title. As loyal friendships are forged and deadly enemies formed, Shirayuki and Zen slowly learn to support each other as they walk their own paths.

Review: Doctor Who: The Memory Cheats

This book is not as good as previous audiodramas. First of all I must say is that the Memory Cheats follows Echoes of Grey in some sorts. Zoe is confronted yet again about her time traveling with the doctor. She insist she doesn't know nothing but still the company does not believe her. This one follows an adventure in Ubzekistan 1919 where some people are being adbucted by someone or something. Communist is on the rise and the ideals are there.
The Doctor, with jamie and zoe try to uncover what is happening and soon understand no human could have done it The relevant part of this story is that Zoe is walking recording camera never forgetting nothing but she still does not remember travelling with the Doctor (remember her mind was clean by the Time Lords). In the end we are left with a question. Is anything of that story true or is just made up by Zoe?
It is a 1h tale substandard compare with some others I've heard before. It seems these last few tales are just "I remember a time travelling the doctor..." Nothing is seen as actual adventure... Enfin...

Boardgame Arkham Horror - Session 03 - Turn 2 - Ancient One Shudde M'ell
I played for 5 turns.

From the beginning the three companions knew what they need to be done. Jim Culver would need to go back to Dunwich and help there while Marie with her weapon would work out and kill the monsters that were appearing on Arkham. Patrice Hathaway due to her affinity to the occult she was more inclined to seal those Gates opening in several places.
Marie went to the Silver Twilight Lodge where nothing happen; PH went to univisited isle to collect a clue and lost one sanity but gain another clue and JC had a brillant start winning the Key of Tawil At'umr which first of all grants him the amazing ability of "You cannot be delayed" and if needed I can discard it and came from other world to Arkham or vice-versa.
As the friends begin their perilous adventure 2 gates opened. One at Witch House with a Dark Young and in Unvisited Island with Dimensional Shambler... Of course Patrice was in Unvisited Isle so she was sucked to the Abyss...
The next day one of the gates closed unexpectly. Jim got a bank loan, Marie after waiting one day she got the luck of finding a Golden Sword of Yha-Talia giving her a great bonus to attack. The sword must be sentient.
Turn 4
One gate opens in unamable and one mummy appears. So we've got plus the two gates in Dunwich this is getting very upset. Fortunally Patrice sealed a gate.
You can see in the picture below that Marie turn out a striker with 8 combat check from two weapons, Patrice is a clue magnet and Jim is now at Dunwich but is master of nothing... I really hope he can close a gate. Killing monsters? Don't know but Dunwich is already with token out of three.

Movie Review: The 5th Wave
I had the audiobook but never had the time to hear it. When the movie came out and it had Chloë Grace Moretz the child wonder (now not a child 'cause she has 19) but I always enjoy her movies. My favorite movie was Kick-Ass. Then with Carrie and Hugo.I think she will be a top actress. But enough of her. What I was saying was that I love her work so I said well let us see the movie and probably she is the only reason the movie has a rating of only 5.2.
This movie starts with a awesome premise.
The aliens came and the first wave was a EMP. Everything Electronic was dead.
The second Wave was massive earthquakes and all coastal cities were wipe out.
The third wave came with Avian Flu.
The Fourth Wave came with Snipers from the Others (that's how they call them). Snipers?? What? Later on we understand that this are not snipers per se. They are sleeper agents planted years before by the aliens.
And The Fifth Wave - humans. What? Yeah... Let me explain...
Story
We have Cassie living a mundane life and they endure the EMP and Earthquakes. When the Avian Flu hit humanity her mother died while helping other people. The rest of the family went to the woods to refugee camp. After a while the army arrives with cars (I thought the EMP wiped everything off) and takes all children to a army base. Then they try to say to grown''s up that the others can impersonate humans, Children are quite easy to detect but grownups is not (why?). Of course some crazy redneck says he is no Other and everyone starts firing. The Father is shot down. Cassie who had been left behind after trying to retrieve the teddy bear of her brother saw everything.

Oh, and here it's where this is more YA than something else. Cassie fells in love with Evan and they sleep together.
While in the first attack Ben and rest of squad minus Sam which he lock in the bathroom so he stay behind. While in the city Ringer (A rebellious girl from Ben's squad) takes out something the army gave her to put in the back of her head (they say it was a tracking divice) and she appears to have a bug on her face (the other controlled people by a bug in her face sucking the brain and controlling her actions).
They later realize that anyone without the tracking made the visors they had go "Alien Alert".
Thew went AWOL but Ben returned to the base to rescue Sam. At the same time Cassie arrives at the base and infiltrates it. Of course they bundle up as they are both escaping the aliens which made a awkward moment... Evan also returns and kisses Cassie telling her that he wants to be with her and not the others... oh, didn't I told you? Evan was a sleeper agent who felt in love with Cassie and renounce the Others parentage...Both Cassie and Ben rescue Sam and escape the base while Evan put bombs on it. Of course the bad guys escape in helicopters with all brainwashed children. The movie ends with Sam and Sam's unit and Cassie talking that they are going to free the other childrens. Evan is not in this gathering...

Thoughts
Of course not. This is only the first movie of three but with the low ratings and it only gross 34Millions of 38Million Budget. I sincerely don't know if they are going to make a second or third. This movie didn't learn with Hunger Games or Maze Runner or even Divergent. Each story must be self contain and in this case it was not.
There are so many unexplained phenomena like, the fourth wave and the fifth wave. Use children to kill off the rest of humanity? Honestly? Yes... children are gulible but why spend so much effort on training and such? You want to be attack after they realize you are the bad guys right? Oh well, maybe it's explain in the second and third movie.... This is not a good movie. This is not an average movie. This is a little boring Young Adult with some alien/apocalpytic scenary...At least it has Chloe...
I really hope for better in the second or third movie... if they are going to make it, of course.

Review: Doctor Who: House of Cards
My rating: 3 of 10 stars
Interesting little story about using time travelling with gambling. Polly is the main character of this tale. Again Steve is almost non-existent and even the Doctor has minor participation.
